Fundraiser update.
In 2022 I, along with 11 other designers, was invited to participate in a charity fundraising calendar, where 12 knit designers were paired with 12 yarn dyers to create a design each month for a 2023 yarnie calendar with 100% of the pattern sales proceeds going to the designers charity of choice.
We were shown 12 inspiration images, all based on Northern American landscapes, and invited to choose one. I selected the beautiful Grand Canyon image, and to my delight I soon discovered that Tanya did too, which meant we were partnered for the collaboration.
Tanya created magic in her dyepots and sent me the stunning results to create with. Find Tanya on IG here.
Canyon Dawning is a one skein delight, resulting in a lovely shawlette. Simple stockinette shows off the beautiful yarn, and textured eyelets nod to the rocky landscape of our muse and the channel within.
We became the April Calendar girls and 100% of the proceeds from the pattern sales from April 2023 to March 31 2024 will go to my selected charity, the Worawa Aboriginal College. Who provide a holistic education and boarding experience for young First Nations women in the middle/secondary years of schooling, who come from communities in urban, regional and remote Australia. I am delighted to say that the result is that a donation of AUD$4608 was achieved.
Receiving this lovely note in return absolutely made my day!
Hello Ambah,
All of us at Worawa Aboriginal College would like to thank-you for your kind donations. With your
help we can continue to close the gap for our Aboriginal girls and help them walk in both worlds
confidently.
We love your Canyon Dawning shawl design, the colours are remnant of Kings Canyon here in Australia
as you would know. Our Elder in Residence, Aunty Lois Peeler is very impressed with the shawl,
exclaiming, “I want one!”. If it was already made, she would have purchased
right there and then. We wish you well with your continued pattern sales.
We have since arranged a day for me to gift her my shawl.
Canyon Dawning is now available from both my Ravelry and Etsy stores.
