Choose between Cowl A or B and join us in a KAL

The full Caladenia Cowl pattern is now available and since the Caladenia Shawl is now revealed I can now share all the pictures with you!

When I was designing the Caladenia Shawl I knit it 3 times! I was obsessed with a stranded colourwork section I designed that I wanted to incorporate but just couldn’t get it to work with the shawl shape mainly due to tension issues and knitting it flat with the long floats, I’ll add a picture below. So I created a mosaic motif for the shawl and decided to use the stranded colourwork in a cowl featuring elements of the shawl design. While knitting the colourwork cowl I realised it would be a gorgeous design with just the bobbles and lace sections, so along came cowl B – perfect for those who don’t enjoy stranded knitting. So there’s two cowl options to choose from.

Sibling projects to the Caladenia Shawl, the Caladenia Cowls feature the same bobble and lace design elements. Cowl A includes a stranded colourwork motif, inspired by the Australian bush orchids the pattern is named for, while Cowl B skips the stranded colourwork for a simpler project. Bias shaping means this will sit cosily around the neck and looser at the collar, a lovely way to wear your knitted creation.

My inspiration for this design is the gorgeous Australian Caladenia also known as the Spider Orchid, of which there are many beautiful variations.
