Design in process & inspo… I had been thinking abo Design in process & inspo… I had been thinking about dotty intarsia projects for much of last year. A couple of weeks ago I stopped in my scrolling tracks when I saw @katjaknitter ‘s post with the image in slide 2 - that was the spark that got me working on the Dot.Dot Cowl! How gorgeous is that image - & her feed! I ordered some pink yarn and got started on the green version while waiting for it, with plans for the green to be a somewhat mellower palette until I was inspired by the bright colour pops in some flowers I picked from my garden. I’m stash diving for the dots: DK & fingering held double for a DK weight project overall, choosing each colour as I come to it. The pink version will be double the length of the green.
I started by swatching a few variations of the dot itself and also a triangular shawl - which I may revisit down the track. No pics of this part, Itend to knit & rip out a bit at this stage of the process & not really take pics - I’ll aim to in the future tho! There’s also some rough sketches & hand drawn charts. Once I was happy with my dot shape I cut out a little pile of them & tried a few layout arrangements on my graph paper until I was satisfied.
I’m have lots of fun with this, it’s been one of those “must knit immediately “ designs that just flies off the needles!

In light of the last few posts I thought it would be fun to share given the strong link to the gorgeous picture that has inspired this.

With thanks to @katjaknitter for permission to share her image here 💛

Silver linings ✨ Thank you all for your support, i Silver linings ✨
Thank you all for your support, it really has been amazing.
I was pretty rattled when I posted my last post responding to the pattern theft accusation, it took everything I had in me to post it and I’m glad I did.
I’m so grateful for all the kind words and encouragement I have received, it has helped so much.
Thank you all the new folk who have joined me here, hi & welcome 💛
Thanks also for the unexpected flurry of pattern sales, so appreciated - I have taken the opportunity to contribute some of these funds to @sizeinclusivecollective ‘s fundraiser in support of the amazing work she is doing for the benefit of our craft community, including me.
Thanks also for the feedback that it is interesting to learn more about the design process, I will aim to share more of that here, last year I started a YouTube series; the Design Tails, where I talk about patterns as I release them, sharing the design process as well as knitting & styling tips - Episode 2 features Bliss-Bloss Shawl 🌸

Feeling the love and am so grateful 💛
I am writing to address the public accusation made I am writing to address the public accusation made today regarding my Bliss-Bloss Shawl design. I 100% reject the claim that I copied another designer's work. While the two designs share similarities, they are distinct, and I was unaware of their design until this accusation was made today.
The designer in question is demanding that I remove my pattern from sale and is threatening legal action. Because I did not copy or take inspiration from their work, and given the clear differences between the two pieces, I will not be complying with this demand. My character has been attacked publicly, and I am sharing my design process to defend my integrity.
Slide 1: My design, the Bliss-Bloss Shawl - a sideways garter triangle with stockinette intarsia flowers.
Slide 2: The design evolution starts with my Ocean Moon Shawl (published 2022), featuring sideways garter stitch and intarsia motifs.
Slide 3: Lunation Shawlette - a DK weight evolution of Ocean Moon. Note the motif placement along the inc/dec edge, which served as the inspiration for Bliss-Bloss flower placement.
Slide 4: Snaggletooth Shawl - published around the time of the Bliss-Bloss inspiration, utilizing the garter, intarsia, and sideways triangle construction I have used since "Magine" in 2013.
Slide 5: Magine (2013).
Slide 6: The direct visual inspiration for Bliss-Bloss: a cushion by Australian label Sage & Clare. The flowers and colors led to my swatching process, resulting in the five-petal motif.
Slide 7: The final Bliss-Bloss Shawl.
Slide 8: The other designer’s work. It is all stockinette with different edges; the flowers are arranged in a row rather than aligned with the shawl’s shaping, and it carries a different aesthetic.
Slide 9: A similar flower scarf published in 2005 by Andrea and Gayle Shackleton, illustrating that these motifs are common in the knitting world.
I understand the frustration of seeing a similar design released, as it has happened to me many times. However, unless an actual pattern is being plagiarized, I believe there is room for similar creative interpretations.

This weeks #featuredFriday50 pattern is the Lunati This weeks #featuredFriday50 pattern is the Lunation Shawlette.

Find this weeks featured pattern in my Ravelry and Etsy stores and enjoy an automatic 50% off - no code needed.

Knit yourself a sweet Lunation Shawlette to mark the phases of a lunar cycle. This is designed for DK weight yarn and results in a sweet scarf or shawlette to keep you cosy. I knit mine up in Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy yarn, and I love the speckle effect of this yarn. No need to stick to neutrals though; like the Ocean Moon Shawl that provided the inspiration for Lunation, there is no limit to the colours you can choose for your moons for your version. Be inspired by the moons we celebrate each year: Harvest moon, Blood moon, Pink moon, Rainbow moon, Blue moon! The moons are created using the intarsia technique.

Note: The moon intarsia instructions are charted only (no corresponding written instructions)
Pattern purchase includes an Intarsia Swatch tutorial with accompanying heart swatch instructions as a separate download.
